The Adige cuts through one of the most dramatic gorges in northern Italy — and this route follows it almost all the way down and back, on quiet roads with barely a car in sight.

Route Overview

Starting from Rivoli Veronese, the first kilometres drop gently into the Adige valley. From here the road opens up: smooth tarmac, vineyards on both sides, and the river always close. The landscape is understated but beautiful — classic northern Italy without the tourist infrastructure. You’ll pass through small villages, cross old bridges, and ride stretches where the only sound is your tyres on the road.

The turnaround point brings you to the valley floor near Avio, where the river widens and the views stretch out across to the Lessinia hills. The return leg climbs gently back up above the valley — nothing punishing, just enough to feel like you’ve earned the view. One short punchy ramp near the end, and then a clean descent back into Rivoli to finish.

Start/finish: Rivoli Veronese (parking at the village)

Surface: Tarmac — road bike or gravel

Best season: March – November

Distance: 65 km

Elevation gain: 411 m

Altitude range: 92–215 m

Café Stops

Start and finish your ride at Dal Gilio Bottega e Osteria in Rivoli — a proper bike-friendly café right at the village.
